60 nazims, naibs elected unopposed in Hyderabad
As many as 164 candidates for different seats, including 30 pairs of aspirants for the seats of union council (UC) nazims and naib nazims, were elected unopposed in Tando Allahyar and Thatta, Election Commission (EC) officials told Daily Times on Monday. A total of 164 candidates have been elected in Thatta and 8 in Tando Allahyar.
The EC notified that these candidates had been elected unopposed, officials said. In Thatta district alone, over half of the pairs of candidates for the seats of nazims and naib nazims in 28 union councils won unopposed. There are 55 UCs in total in Thatta. All the pairs of candidates who won as UC nazim and naib nazim are from parties belonging to the ruling coalition.
Thatta and Tando Allahyar are two districts of the 54 districts in the country and 11 in the province in which local bodies polls will be held in the first phase on August 18. According to details, Tando Allahyar district experienced a tough contest between the government and opposition for the lucrative post of district nazim.
