House Hunting in Trinidad and Tobago

This three-story 1,500-square-foot wooden home, on Monos Island, a 20-minute ferry ride from Trinidad, is built on a dock in secluded Passy Bay. There is no indoor common living area in this home; the dock itself, which is partly covered, serves this function with outdoor furniture and an indoor/outdoor dining area. There is also a galley kitchen on this level (recently updated with new appliances) that has a ceramic-tile floor and counters.

Upstairs are four bedrooms, all with built-in wardrobes and ceiling fans. There is a shared half bath and separate shower room on this level. On the top floor is a small bedroom with a portable air conditioner and an en-suite half bath. The home is sold furnished and has new mattresses, linens and ceiling fans.

The five-acre property has 250 feet of water frontage, including a small beach. Most of the land is wooded and slopes steeply to the waterfront. On the hillside is a caretaker’s cottage, which has a living room, a kitchen and a bedroom with an en-suite half bath; the shower is outdoors. The property has a generator, in case of power failures, as well as an 8,000-gallon rain water tank that serves as the property’s main water source.
