Clean chit given, DDA to start allotting flats in Nov

More than a year after Delhi Development Authority (DDA) launched its housing scheme in August 6, 2008, successful applicants will get a chance to see their dream houses now. The land agency which has received a clean chit from the economic offences wing (EOW) of Delhi Police after allegations of fraudulent draw were made is planning to start allotments from November.

The allotments for the 5238 flats, spread across the city, come almost 10 months after the draw of names. DDA had to put a halt on allotments after EOW arrested nine persons in a case of forgery and cheating related to the housing scheme. However, subsequent investigation by EOW into the involvement of DDA officials in the case or tampering of the software used for the electronic draw has thrown a blank, said DDA officials. The DDA on Thursday said EOW had given it a clean chit.

C-DAC could not find any evidence that the software had any vulnerability to be compromised nor could they detect any evidence of external tampering. The report also states that from an analysis of the source code, the experts could not find any evidence to indicate that the software shows any type of bias towards any specific applicant or applicants,’ says the report by EOW.

The realty bubble: will it survive when reality bites?

It is now obvious. No matter what some experts say, Indias realty market is in the grip of a dangerous bubble. In fact, it is prudent to remember that the many celebrated experts quickly lost their perspective when they start chasing any excessively hyped sector of the economy; and this time they are chasing a completely unregulated, black money infested market that is being touted as Indias hottest new wealth machine. Surely there is enormous irony in the fact that foreign investors and realty brokers, operating out of swish hotels and offices are ramping up the prospects of Indias realty,

20K apply for 800 affordable flats

The possibility of an affordable home not only eludes the vast middle class in the private sector, but also the Central public sector employees across the country, reflecting the gross shortage of houses. Huge deficit between demand and supply, especially in metro cities, has forced the Central government real estate firm National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) to revise its estimates for creation of housing units meant for government employees. For a scheme launched by NBCC for 800 affordable flats in Delhi NCR, it received around 20,000 applications — 25 times the number of flats up for sale — NBCC CMD
