With a 15% decline in passenger footfalls, and aircraft movements down to 600 from 750 per hour, the Mumbai airport can no longer afford to be just the countrys largest airport.
So, Mumbai International Airport (MIAL), the company modernising the airport, has jumpstarted the process of tranforming around 200 acre real estate around both the Santa cruz and Sahar airports exclusively for non-aeronautical purposes like retail, commercial and hospitality.
UTVI learns that MIAL has short-listed three independent consultants to conduct a valuation of the entire property, and also bring in partners during the bidding stage.

Air Sahara suspends Mumbai-Chennai flights till Dec. 5
Private carrier Air Sahara, has cancelled all its flights between Mumbai and Chennai till December 5 due to 'operational reasons'. "The airline has stopped flight operations since yesterday. Confusion in Hyderabad airport
Total confusion and uncertainty prevailed over flight services in Hyderabad airport this morning as airport employees started a strike, in protest against the move to privatise Delhi and Mumbai airports. Striking employees of Airports Authority were seen raising slogans against the "anti-worker" policies of the Government. In an attempt to decongest our crowded airports, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) had asked airlines to shift their main base to smaller cities, instead of concentrating on Delhi and Mumbai alone. Pune to come on international airline network
Pune is all set to play host to international flights, with Air-India introducing a service to Dubai from December 12 onwards. The service would operate three times a week with a 200 seater A-310 aircraft, Air-India spokesman said here today.
