Unable to provide adequate hotel rooms for the expected tourists during the Commonwealth Games, the government is now hoping to set up camp sites for tourists. Shortage of accommodation continues to worry the tourism ministry and it has asked the Army for land in cantonment areas to set up camps.
Tourism secretary Sujit Banerjee said, We have written to the Army asking them if arrangements can be made in cantonment areas to accommodate camps.
So far, the government has been barely able to manage about 27,000 rooms against a target of 30,000. According to recent estimates, DDA has promised 2,101 rooms while Haryana has been able to commit 5,417 rooms. Ghaziabad and Greater Noida have succeeded in creating 1,303 and 500 rooms respectively.

Noida to be a venue of National Games ’09
NOIDA will be one of the venues for the National Games-2009 to be organised in the state. The executive committee of the Indian Olympic Association and Uttar Pradesh Olympic Association are planning to organise some of the games in the satellite city of the state capital as it has the required infrastructure.
