MAN Industries to diversify into real estate sector

MAN Industries India Limited, part of the well-diversified UK-based USD 1bn MAN Group and Indias leading manufacturer of large diameter line pipes and coating systems, has announced its plans to diversify into the real estate sector.

The companys subsidiary, MAN Infraprojects Limited plans to develop seven projects in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Indore with an investment of Rs 1000 crore in the next three years. With a total built-up area of 10 million sq ft., the projects would be worth over Rs 4000 crore.

US private investment firm old Lane and city-based infrastructure development company R R Industries on Monday announced a joint venture to set up an Information Technology Park in the outskirts of Chennai. The Andhra Pradesh government has renamed the newly constructed cricket stadium here from ‘Visaka Stadium’ to ‘Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium,’. PSU banks exposure to real estate doubles

With the real estate market booming as never before, banks cant be far behind in doling out more credit to the hot sector. Public sector banks are leading the race to extend credit to the realty sector with their exposure more than doubling in 2005-06. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), lending by PSU banks to the realty sector shot up by 102 per cent to Rs 1,56,903 crore in 2005-06 from Rs 77,313 crore in the previous year. The RBI has classified real estate as a sensitive sector — prone to high volatility and unpredictable movements —
