Violence broke out at many places in Noida and Ghaziabad on Monday even as the two cities were completely cut off from the Capital until the afternoon.
Police had to fire in the air at Greater Noida to disperse a violent crowd that was indulging in brick-batting and arson. Several places in Noida and Ghaziabad saw protesters blocking roads as they set fire to old tires and scared the motorists.
Some trains were also stopped by mob at Dadri and Dankor in Greater Noida and at Loni in Ghaziabad. Damage to train tracks was also reported from Dankor, where several trains were held up for as long as eight to 10 hours. A Ghaziabad Development Authority engineer, who was held for 10 hours in a train at Dankor, reached office about 5 pm. I was stuck in the train as the roads were also blocked, he said.
